My startup story: the first first first version of the MVP
As some of you know, I have relaunched one of my business ideas. A lot of projects and ideas are in my head. After my two years of Executive Master and years helping companies growing, it is time to launch this one!
I decided to be innovative on the blog and talk about this entrepreneurship adventure. I am going to do my best to talk about the challenges I have. I know mistakes will be done, like in all ventures. Talking about them will help me to overcome them, I am sure.
So this is the first time I present you what I call the first first first MVP (minimum viable product). In the reality it is the first display I officially put online to talk about the project and it is a very basic but visually nice (I hope) landing page, in the spirit of the project we want to launch.
You can find this landing page here: www.allmadeinfrance.com
The project in 3 sentences
The target of this project is to create a marketplace dedicated to Made in France products. Brands selling made in France goods will be able to propose their products on the marketplace, and benefit to an international market. Buyers will have a better access to Made in France products and will discover brands they didn't hear about before and proposing high end products.
(more details will be given in next articles)
Why did I start with this "first first first MVP"?
The difficulty when you start a business idea is to S.T.A.R.T. I remember when I started this blog, I talked about "From Where to Start" your business ideas. The hardest action is to action the tasks. Among the tasks that have to be done, you have to build a first prototype of your product or at least an element of communication that helps you to communicate with your futur customers.
In this specific case, the landing page created targets are:
- To provide a support to sellers that want more information about the concept
- To provide a support to investors if you raise some money (even crowdfunding)
- To provide a way to communicate with your futur customers
- To start referencing your website or plateforme on Google
- To clear your head and idea
- To put you in a good mood because you seriously have something achieved
So this is a good achievement and it is a clear and important door to the next stage.
What is the targeted output?
We can say it is a mini MVP because the target of this at the end of the day is to collect a maximum amount of learnings about the sellers with the least effort. This will help us to know if there are some sellers interested by the concept as their role is very important in the success of the marketplace.
What is the content of this page?
This landing page was designed for the sellers. As they are French, the landing page is in french.
It contains questions that sellers would ask and a section so they can contact me. Very simple. The idea, as per the lean method is to make things by iteration. So the next step is to check how effective is this page and adjust or pivote if required.
Another version in english for you guys that are interested to know more about the project.
How I intend to communicate about it?
This is where it becomes interesting. With the quantity of data on Internet, it becomes more and more difficult to be heard by people not in your direct network. and even in your direct network it can actually be difficult.
- I don't intend to create the Facebook page for the moment (too early and gives a lot of jobs to maintain it without necessarily a good return on investment. I will probably ask to my friends to share but it is all.
- I will use Twitter mainly in terms of social network for the moment. Indeed I target the sellers and brands for the moment and Twitter is one of the best tools to improve awareness in a B2B market.
- Write some other contents to talk and share about it :)
- and the most effective I believe is to make prospecting so I will take my computer and spend hours and hours to find brands and promote the platform.
How difficult I anticipate it will be?
The difficulty remains the awareness stage, especially when you don't have everything already build and a small budget. I know that it is going to be hard at the beginning to find brands interested, especially when they cannot see the platform yet. In addition, prospecting requires a lot of time and effort that we don't have immediately. But let's not be too worried and crack on.
